According to officials, the motor vehicle accident happened when at least three cars collided. All three cars crashed in the northbound lanes of West Street near Laight Street in TriBeCa at about 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
How did it happen?
This accident happened when an Audi was weaving extremely fast in and out of traffic, said a witness. The Audi’s driver was a 37-year-old male. His Audi struck a Honda CRV being driven by an adult female.
Effects of the accident:
The impact of the Audi with the Honda CRV was so powerful, the CRV overturned and immediately burst into flames. As a result, the female driver of the CRV died. The burning Honda CRV can be seen sliding across the road through traffic in the dashcam video recovered.
A Hyundai, a pickup truck, and a couple of parked vehicles were also struck in the accident. The truck was being driven by 28-year-old male, whereas the Hyundai was being operated by 68-year-old female. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment where their condition is reported to be stable.
The overturned Honda was still smouldering well after the accident. Authorities placed a tarp over it, indicating the deceased female was still inside.
What about the suspect?
The 37-year-old suspect tried, but failed, to flee the scene with his Rottweiler dog. He was quickly apprehended by the police. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment, while the Rottweiler was taken by Animal Control.
The cause of this motor vehicle accident is being investigated by police. They have not revealed the identities of victims from this accident. The charges against the 37-year-old Audi driver are still pending.
